McNeil Island Special Commitment Center

The Special Commitment Center was a highly complex project to construct an all-new administrative and high-security wing for sex offenders. The project posed tremendous logistic and security challenges, with all labor and materials needing to be ferried/barged in and thoroughly screened daily, for security reasons. The project was completed immediately adjacent to, and tied into, existing secure facilities. Additionally, the island is part of the McNeil Island Wildlife Area and under the ownership of the Department of Fish and Wildlife, which oversees protection of the habitat.
