Pacific Lutheran University Performing Art Center

Parkland, WA

The project was quite challenging, with the site being a 40-degree sloping, rocky and heavily wooded hillside wedged between other campus buildings. The facility was essentially built right into this hillside. Absher initially provided extensive value-engineering services to bring the project scope in line with the proposed budget.

Inside the Lagerquist Concert Hall, adjustable heavy fabric panels can be raised or lowered to tailor the degree of sound reflection to the particular music performance. Bird’s-eye maple, Alaskan split-grain fir and other fine woods provide aesthetic as well as acoustic function. Ultimately, the new Russell Music Center is a resounding success in all aspects, and PLU was thoroughly pleased not only with the facility itself and the quality of construction, but also with Absher’s project management, flexibility and commitment to client satisfaction.
