Yakima YMCA and Aquatic Center

Yakima, WA

This $21M community hub project involved new construction of 66,000 SF recreation and aquatic center on an undeveloped site. The project features a fitness space and youth area. In partnership with Virginia Mason Memorial hospital, the facility will also have a therapy rehabilitation clinic and warm water pool. The community aquatics center is expected to have a leisure and lap pool, water slide and lazy river. Zero Depth entry for lazy river, with water play feature. Sauna and steam room connect to the natatorium for access.

This collaborative project has gone very smooth and will complete on-time. The partnership is unique as it allows the funding to be combined which resulted in the YMCA being able to propose a project much larger than any one entity would have been able to create on its own. Successful projects, such as the Yakima YMCA, may attract other entities to partner for future community projects as they will see the value in teaming up for a more robust result.

“You get a better outcome working together than you would get from working alone.” Yakima YMCA Executive Director Bob Romero
