VA Skilled Nursing Facility

Walla Walla, WA

This $34M medical project for the Department of Veterans affairs involved new construction of an 80-bed senior housing facility on an 11-acre site located on the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center campus. The 2-level, 85,000 SF project features 8 communal living “homes” – each with 10 resident rooms with a private bathroom around a common living/dining/kitchen area. A central community center provides a large meeting area, chapel, physical and occupational therapy rooms, doctor’s office, barber shop/salon, and offices. Additional common amenities include laundry areas, bathing suites, storage and equipment rooms. The project achieved LEED Gold certification.

The Skilled Nursing Center is being built in the same location as the old Fort Walla Walla.  When digging for the new facility, archeologists were brought in to handle the artifacts uncovered. These included an old cistern, ice houses, an old nurses station, old buried wooden building and other building rubble.
