Our History

We started small. Home-remodel projects small. But we never thought small. We just thought we should do things right.

R.L. “Barney” Absher began the company in 1940. Before Slinky, Mount Rushmore and the microwave. And in these eight decades, we’ve led the way in industry excellence, technology adoption and versatility.

Barney’s credo was, “If you’re going to do a job, do it right.” And right we still do. After three generations of family ownership, Absher has handed the keys over to our Employee Owners who are still guided by our values of doing things right and doing right things.

Regularly recognized as one of Engineering News-Record’s Top 400 U.S. Contractors, Absher has grown from our humble beginnings to a large and versatile construction firm performing preconstruction and construction services nationwide.

Today, Absher is a 100% employee-owned company and maintains a healthy balance of competitive-bid, negotiated, design-build and general contractor/construction manager (GCCM) projects across the country. We work across the federal, transportation, educational, multi-unit housing, recreation and commercial markets.

And we do it right.
