Mott Children’s Therapy Unit

Absher worked with the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects and Good Samaritan Hospital to consolidate the Children’s Therapy Unit (CTU), previously spread throughout the Good Samaritan Hospital campus, to a single location. The nautical Noah’s Ark theme echoed throughout the whimsical yet highly functional design including utilizing repurposed port-holes from a local shipyard, stained glass and mosaic tile waves surrounding the cylindrical therapy pool space and ocean scenes painted by a local artist on a mural visible through a glass-panel backed elevator. Devoted specifically to meeting the therapy needs of infants, children and teens, the new CTU includes a complete range of facilities and services, including a therapy pool; computer lab; a large treatment room as well as smaller private treatment rooms; an aerobics room; a gross-motor skills center; multiple-use classrooms; exam rooms; a clinical research area; a specialty skills room; a sensory-skills center and more. The CTU also provides auxiliary services such as a daycare center, kitchen facilities, administrative offices, an outside play area and a quiet zen garden area as well.
