Des Moines Elementary School (Zenith Site)

Des Moines, WA

The $40.6M Des Moines Elementary School project involved new construction of a 84,582 SF building. The new school facilities included classrooms, library, cafeteria, kitchen, and administrative spaces. Athletic facilities included a gymnasium, playground and ball field. Additional site work included road frontage improvements, a new vehicle access point for drop-off and pick-up zones along with visitor parking near the main building entrance. A separate vehicle access for bus loading, staff parking and event overflow parking. The project was constructed to meet WSSP sustainability goals.

Achieved Washington Sustainable School Protocol (WSSP) with green features such as lighting control system, use of recycled materials, and low/no volatile organic compound (VOC) materials.

The project site has a creek that runs through the site and it is upstream from a Native Control body of water so we coordinated with the District and the USACE to ensure proper wetland mitigation. We created a wetland and mitigated the existing wetlands. We used an existing retention pond on site for storm water management.
