SSA Teleservice Communications Center

Description

The Social Security Administration Teleservice Center project was an adaptive reuse of an existing warehouse structure into a national SSA call center. Located on an occupied government campus, Absher had to tie into existing building systems such as EMS & fire alarm that served the entire campus. The design created an open floor plan office space in the existing warehouse as well as exterior upgrades and landscaping around the building. The project also included extensive electrical, data and communications systems throughout the building, as well as an under-floor air distribution system, access floor and skylights. The entire existing SSA call center, which takes over 60 million calls every year, was moved without any downtime over two weekends. Absher assigned a Move Coordinator, who was the lead person responsible for the overall move planning and overseeing the execution of the tenant move of approximately 656 work stations. Absher won a Design Excellence Award from the U.S. General Services Administration for our contribution to the SSA Teleservice Center project’s outstanding design performance and efficiency, and also won GSA Public Buildings Service’s Reclaim to Fame award for excellence in construction and demolition waste management.
